Us and Them. Part I.

Aside from content or context, the financial or fashion, the critical and the analytical, apart from judgment is the Us and the Them. It’s in the waking and the waning, the first steps, the yawn, the dusty corners, the yoke. The unguarded impetus, the crooked laugh, the hurried decision voided of times pervasive assistance without your helpful shoulder or your curiosity or your presence. Without invitation things will still sit still in the still room on the floor or lean against the wall or hang upon the wall still doing nothing of course as they don’t need Us as we need Them or certainly feel as if we need Them. You can always laugh at how impermanent it seems, the up and down that is, or the making and consuming. Not laughing then you might when waiting for the train or the lights to dim, recall a certain image, moving or still, heavy, spinning, flashing intermittent. You could be reminded. You could be invisible like the sign on Canal St. that only a certain animal might see, such as a giraffe or a dancing antelope per se or a well dressed Brazilian in the in. Dusty corners steamed dumplings bad coffee. Edit edit. You can walk around town and just see things all day then crawl homeward and see more things just as remarkable. Follow the signs to the Holland Tunnel, wait at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge in the rain in the night. Go to sleep. Find a way to brush your teeth and comb your hair at the same time in the same direction. A sad stack of paintings to be looked through and a proud pile of saw dust to be vacuumed. In his or her studio I can easily imagine a figure crouched in the rafters on the shelves behind the boxes under the floor inside the wall neck bent brooding waiting to leap. A clear bulb low wattage hung limp from perfect geometry. A sleep dancer with pearls twirling beneath the sea perfectly illuminated, perfectly paced.  Another photograph or a finely stained document as proof. It can be seen or unseen neither is urgent. You can bump your head. The energy is more easily consumed. Build a wall that folds in on itself or paint good sticks with hanging feathers. Don’t get out of bed. Absolutely nothing in common we walk hand in hand to speak the same language and go on with it, make fun of it. I’ll run up and down the stairs for all of you with packages in hand. Cold beer and dirty windows. Fine art and cloudy skies. Cold feet and shaky hands. The Halloween birthday party that no one came to. It was unclear who did all the decorating. The dog is in his cage smiling wildly. Hang it higher turn it up you’ll be a star.  Fish.  In the morning at the fair they will sweep and clean, the taxi will drop you off. Pack a lunch bring bottled water the heat is dry.
